time of the last census was 42,259. Canterbury is the home of several higher education institutions including the University of Kent at Canterbury and Canterbury

Transport Links
Canterbury has two railway stations (East and West) on two routes, both providing trains to London. The first also connects Canterbury with Ashford and Thanet whilst the other runs from Dover through
Canterbury to Faversham, the Medway towns and London.
Most local bus services are provided by Stagecoach East Kent.
Canterbury is on the A2 from London to Dover, about 45 miles from the M25 and about 61 miles from central London. The A28 also runs through Canterbury on its way from Ashford to Thanet.
A park and ride bus service is provided from several large car parks on the outskirts of the city into the centre.

The town includes many historic buildings and is well known for its cathedral.
